Introduction

Started in 2010, the "Game Den" is a place for festival-goers at LinuxFest NW to relax and play some cool games supported on Linux.

Goals of the Game Den

  • See what great free & open-source (FOSS) games are now available on Linux
  • Have fun

Network Games

Note: All network game servers @ LFNW will be labelled LFNW2010

  • Armagetron Advanced (Arcade) 3d light cycle game
    • Choose Game -> Network Game -> LAN Game
    • Install armagetronad-dedicated for dedicated
  • Frozen Bubble (Arcade) Pop the bubbles!
    • Choose Start LAN Game -> Create new game
  • OpenArena (Arcade) A fast-paced 3D first-person shooter, similar to id Software Inc.'s Quake III Arena
    • Choose Multiplayer and click on Servers until it says "Local"
    • Install openarena-server for dedicated
  • Sauerbraten (Arcade) A networked, fast-paced 3D first-person shooter
    • Choose Multiplayer -> Server browser -> search LAN
    • Install sauerbraten-server for dedicated
  • Tremulous (Arcade) Aliens vs Humans, First Person Shooter game with elements of Real Time Strategy
    • Choose Play
    • Install tremulous-server for dedicated
  • BZFlag (Arcade) 3D multi-player multiplatform tank battle game
    • Choose Join Game -> Find Server
    • Install bzflag-server for dedicated
  • Chess (glchess) (Board) Play the classic two-player boardgame of chess
    • Choose Game -> Network Game. Enter <username> on GGZ. Click on the 'Chess' room and join or create a table.

Non-networked games

  • Pingus (Arcade) Guide a horde of penguins through various obstacles (like Lemmings)
  • Super Tux 2 (Arcade) SuperTux is a classic 2D jump 'n run sidescroller (like Super Mario)
  • Supertuxkart (Racing) a kart racing game
  • Extreme Tux Racer (Racing) Race a penguin down a mountain
  • Neverball (Arcade) 3D marble game
  • Neverputt (Arcade) 3D putt-putt golf
  • Trigger (Racing) 3D rally racing car game
  • TORCS (Racing) 3D racing cars simulator game
